Yahoo! 360 Site Maintenance Thursday June 19 from 10 am to 5 pm PST

Hi Everyone, While we're hard at work on Yahoo!'s new profile, we want to make sure that the vibrant community here on 360 continues to thrive. In order to accommodate growing blog usage, we need to add capacity! This Thursday June 19 at 10am PT, we will be taking roughly 20% of 360 accounts temporarily offline for up to 7 hours (i.e. from 10am to 5pm PT) so we can add more machines to better handle the load of everyone's blog posts and comments.

Hi Everyone, My last post regarding the future of Yahoo! 360 ° generated a lot of questions and comments and we've read them all. Thank you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. While we can't respond to all the comments, we will address common questions and recurring themes in future blog posts. Last week I also spoke with a handful of passionate 360 ° users. I wanted to hear firsthand the reaction to the news,

I want to provide additional information on this news and assure you that we will minimize any disruption to you and our valued Yahoo! 360 community.
Yahoo! 360º Questions? Let's Talk (Uhhh, Right Here).

photo by filipe bachomo It seems everywhere I turn, people are talking about Yahoo! 360º. Unfortunately, much of this well-deserved chatter is happening over on the Yahoo! Mash Suggestion Board - where we really can't do much with it (or even keep tabs on it). While we love hearing what's on your mind, let's keep the Yahoo! 360º discussion going here in THIS blog. That way we can leave the Mash forum for them to discuss their issues.

Updating Your Creative License

Remember how fun it was the first time you created your Yahoo! 360° page? Like Picasso with a mouse, you sat down in front of that blank screen (OK, maybe we started you with a loose template). Then you started moving this here, that there, adding this, removing that. Next thing you knew, you had your own little masterpiece. It was your corner of the Web, reflecting your personality " and what's important to you and the people in your life. Well,

Coming Soon to a Screen Near You (Uhhh, Like Now!)

Thanks for your heartfelt comments on last week's entry about how to share photos using Flickr . All the discussion about bringing fun moments to life brings up another interesting point: It's easy (and fun) to share video on Yahoo! 360º too. A simple way to add video to your Yahoo! 360º page is by using Jumpcut. Part of the Yahoo! network, Jumpcut lets you upload, edit, and share video (and photos).

News About Photo Sharing on Yahoo!

I know some of you have been frustrated lately because of problems sharing your Yahoo! photos on Yahoo! 360°. A couple folks even contacted me directly, pointing out that they switched to Flickr and found it more satisfying. Others wrote in, wondering why we had two photo-sharing services " wasn't one enough? By focusing on a single photo service, they reasoned, wouldn't it make life easier for us by doing one thing (and doing it really, really well)? Well,

Support the "Harry Potter in Braille" Fundraiser

You can't turn anywhere these days and not read about the new release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Unless you're blind. Then it's a challenge reading anything about the latest installment (especially the book itself, because Braille versions of the newest volume are few and far between). But it looks like that's changing, thanks to the warm hearts (and deep pockets) of some Yahoo! Groups members and the HP (Harry Potter) for Grownups group.

Vacation Plans? Chime In

Yep, must be summer vacation time (unless you live outside the Western Hemisphere; then it's off to the ski slopes?) Around here, anyway, in the last few days I've noticed that suddenly the supermarket lines are a wee bit shorter, the local restaurant crowd is somewhat thinner, and roads are ' well, just as congested as ever (but that ain't gonna change anytime soon.) Or maybe there's just a flu bug going around ' But more likely,

Check Your Receipts: What Have You Bought Lately?

Photo by Xian Ge Sure it's fun swapping "techie talk" with fellow Yahoo! 360º users ( latest releases , using simple URL , etc.), but sometimes it's more fun to just shoot the breeze about ' well ' nothing. You know " just getting to know each other a little better. I've always heard that one of the best ways to get to know someone is to go through the person's trash can (and no, I've never actually done it). If you think about all the empty packages,

On the Internet, Nobody Knows You're a'

Photo credit KidneyNotes You've probably seen the classic New Yorker cartoon by Peter Steiner, showing a dog typing on a computer. He turns to his friend and says, "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog." Those of us who spend lots of time online know this rings true (even fourteen years after the cartoon was published). Many people take advantage of the anonymity the Web gives them by being a little wilder and crazier and edgier in their online interactions.
