Linky Goodness, July 24
Thursday, July 24, 2008, 21:09:35 GMT by Jordan McCollum
A Googly-Facebooky linky goodness todayyum! Gee, after a day of wide launch , only 33% of knols rank on the first page of Google . But they're not given extra weight. No. Why doesn't Google host long-form video? Because it didn't work out for Google Video , apparently. Oh, the irony. Google's own Blogspot.com is the No. 1 host for malware according to a study by Sophos. Unsurprisingly, Facebook is still growing faster than MySpace .

Wednesday comes this time each week. Today I wish it didn't. It's been a while, so it's probably time for this rumor to be resurrected: Google is rumored to be buying Digg for $200M . As always, we'll believe it when we see it. The Better Business Bureaus Rates Google As "Unsatisfactory." Ooh, I'm sure they're shaking in their boots. The rating has prompted at least one interesting response: Has The Better Business Bureau Outlived Their Usefulness?

Google Knol Launches
Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 21:32:15 GMT by Jordan McCollum
You know how déjà vu is? I'm feeling that today, since it's been seven months since Google Knol was announced , and they're just now getting around to going live . And what we said at the first announcement still looks to be true: "Google Runs Out of Content to Monetize; Wants You to Build More." Despite obvious similarities, Google Knol will make no claims of aiming to kill Wikipedia . In case you've forgotten,

Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 21:56:51 GMT by Jordan McCollum
Wow. I feel like Google really hears me. First, they make Gmail's contact system less invasive , and now they add walking directions to Google Maps ! I do a small dance of happiness! Now, I know there are those of you wondering why this even matters, what difference walking directions makes. Or, as one commenter put it : Walking directions? Whatever happened to just showing up, facing your body in the direction you wanted to go, and walking? Of course,

Oh my goodness, it's . . . you know. At OMMA Behavioral yesterday, Ignited's David Martin struck upon the perfect slogan for the behavioral advertising industry, and I quote: "It's Only Going To Get Creepier." Excellent. Government regulatory agencies, consumers and advertising clients alike flock to behavioral. Is it just me, or does the question " Are Google Maps good or evil? " seem kind of . . . stupid? There were maps before, people.

Friday, July 18, 2008, 20:59:27 GMT by Jordan McCollum

Today, Yahoo and its allies strike two more blows. First, Yahoo has begun leveraging one of its biggest assestsone of )if not the ( most popular home pages on the Internet. Yahoo Calls Microsoft Actions Stupefying; Will Sell for $33
Thursday, July 17, 2008, 21:29:32 GMT by Jordan McCollum
I think I've made a terrible mistake. Somehow, by using every cliché in the book, I think I just guaranteed that I'll always have get to be the one covering Microsoft/Yahoo/Google deal news. Well, today we'll go with mixed sport metaphors. Mixing metaphors is even more fun than just using them! Okay, so let's hit one out of the park, shall we? There's a new letter to Yahoo shareholders todayfrom Yahoo itself. It's quite long,

I knew you were wondering, since none of us are sure these days, but Yahoo is still giving it the old college try. Here's the latest from the Yahoo battlefront. Although a few of our commentators insist that the Yahoo/Microsoft deal is all but inevitable, Rupert Murdoch disagrees. The US Senate is holding a series of hearings on online advertising, behavioral targeting and privacy to determine whether they should consider legislation protecting consumers online in these areas.
