Are Your Search Engine Optimization Efforts Paying Off
Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 11:32:59 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
It seems there has been another PageRank update over the last 24 hours with the usual chorus of ooh's, aaah's and oh-no's. In the meantime search engine optimization consultants are busy calming their clients. Generally speaking, PageRank is not worth worrying about except perhaps when a new update is released. For many, it validates their search engine optimization strategies. There is nothing like getting a little numeric pat on the back every now and then.

Are Your Outbound Links Authoritative?
Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 17:40:12 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
Or do you even have any outbound links? Should you? Whether or not you have any outbound links depends a great deal on your editorial philosophy. Some old-style SEOs say that you shouldn't. Others say that you should. I think it really matters on your goals and your style. If you do choose to include outbound links, you should start by choosing links that make you look good. Don't use any other kind of links. That is,

Search Engine Optimization For Small Businesses
Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 12:57:21 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
Small businesses will generally have to work harder on their search engine optimization strategies than some of the larger corporations simply due to branding. Many of these organizations rely less on organic search results and more on direct referrals. Take a brand like Coka Cola - most internet users will enter coke.com into their address bar. In fact coke, cokacola and coka- cola will all result in coke home pages.

Blogging And Search Engine Optimization
Monday, April 28, 2008, 12:33:55 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
There are distinct differences when it comes to web pages and blogs, not just in the look or navigation, but in the search engine optimization strategies as well. Sure, both need the usual villains of content, keywords and links. However SEO outcomes for each can be quite different. Aside from the ease of creating multiple pages, each page of a blog will get indexed by they search engines. If there are ten pages to )or posts( on a blog, that is potentially ten pages indexed.

Why Display: None Isn't The Panacea You Might Hope For
Monday, April 28, 2008, 00:53:58 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
A reader asked what I thought about the practice of using the display: none attribute in CSS to hide text. Generally speaking, hiding text on a web page is a method of keyword stuffing that search engines frown upon. You might get away with it in the short term, but don't expect to be able to get away with it forever. Some search engine optimization gurus are always looking for ways to outsmart the search engines and get their web pages ranked higher and faster.

Why Updating Your Blogging Software Is Necessary
Saturday, April 26, 2008, 15:55:18 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
Do you know what version of WordPress or Joomla you are using? It doesn't matter what CSM, blogging software, or other website software that you use, every now and then it will be updated and you'll need to get the latest version. I highly recommend that you always use the latest version for one simple reason: Security. Hackers and crackers are smart guys. They learn too. Every time a software is updated,

Is Search Engine Optimization A Self Fulfilling Prophecy?
Saturday, April 26, 2008, 11:40:11 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
Search engine optimization can be a strange business. Often the harder you work at it the harder it becomes yet we have often been told to work smarter , not harder. There is certainly some truth in the latter part of that statement. Getting started is always going to be the hard part, but then again, if you are starting a brand new bricks and mortar business from scratch, getting started is always difficult . In fact in the bricks and mortar world,

Are You A SearchMonkey?
Friday, April 25, 2008, 17:06:44 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
Yahoo! has rolled out a limited beta of its new developer app called SearchMonkey . I like the general idea. The tool will allow webmasters and other developers the ability to add enhancements to their search engine results at Yahoo! These enhancements could lead to an increase in traffic and if you're like most webmasters, you probably could use that boost from Yahoo! SERPs.

How To Digg Your Keyword Research For Search Engine Optimization
Friday, April 25, 2008, 12:11:21 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
There are a lot of keyword research tools available at present but sometimes nothing beats checking out social sites to see what is humming with their users. Use some of those keywords in your search engine optimization strategies and you may strike gold if or when those keywords spike in the search results. In a strange twist, topics can become very popular on sites like YouTube days before those same terms become popular searches through traditional search engines.

Why Your Blog Can Rank Only Once
Thursday, April 24, 2008, 20:56:24 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
If Google, who for all intents and purposes owns and defines search, does not want a single web property ranking for the same keyword phrase more than once in order to maintain a diversity of search results for searchers, what do we make of blogs on a particular topic that have the potential to rank several pages for the same key phrase? Should bloggers be concerned that they are being discriminated against?

Search Engine Optimization Tips - Don't Hide Your Name
Thursday, April 24, 2008, 13:29:04 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
Search engine optimization is all about getting the best recognition possible from the search engines. To do this, you need to feed as much relevant information to each of the search engines. One mistake that many web owners and web designers make is to hide their company name, their brand and some of their products inside banners. Graphics are very useful particularly when well optimized, likewise text. Banners by their nature are not search engine optimization friendly.

SEO Checklist For Beginners
Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 17:14:51 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
Danny Dover wrote an interesting post at SEOmoz titled, "The Beginner's Checklist For Small Business SEO." I agree with a lot of his points, but one thing I'd like to add is that you don't necessarily need to sign up for Google AdWords, as he suggests, to do your keyword research. Google AdWords has an external keyword tool . In step 4 of his checklist,

Does PageRank Have Any Search Engine Optimization Value?
Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 06:36:45 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
PageRank is often maligned as been useless, out of date and not a true reflection of a pages real value. This is in the main quite true. However, there must be some value to PageRank and if there is, can it assist you in your search engine optimization strategies. My simple response is no, yes and yes. Hang on, I hear you say, there are only two queries in that last sentence? True. PageRank on your site has little value. So the answer is NO, PageRank has no value. However,

Viewzi: What's So Special About This Search Engine?
Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 18:25:36 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
It seems that there's a new search engine startup every week. Everybody wants in on the search engine game, either to topple the king of search - Google - or just to make some money and capitalize on an ever-growing industry. Whatever the motives, there are some of the new startups that are worth trying, but others leave something to be desired. The latest trend in search engines seems to be visual search results or video results. One such search engine was SearchMe . Now,

Search Engine Optimization Is In Perpetual Motion
Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 13:25:24 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
I hear talk of 'new' search engine optimization techniques being better than any of the 'old' ones and often wonder what is meant by 'new'. Search engine optimization techniques are constantly changing, but often it is only in the order of preference, or at the fringes. The 'old' team of content, keywords and links remain at the forefront and always will. They say that social media is taking over and will be the new social optimization strategy in the future.

Is Social Media Another Aspect Of SEO?
Monday, April 21, 2008, 17:10:45 GMT by Nick Stamoulis
There's no doubt that Internet marketing is changing. Rapidly. The onset of social media marketing has some SEOs running for cover . They just don't want to deal with it. In a word, all we need is a little information management . The truth is, the two really go hand in hand. So says Danny Sullivan - and now, Kalena Jordan . Here's what she says about an SEO campaign for a client who needs quick backlinks: What's the solution? To me, it's implementing a blog.
