Remote Access Scam - Beware
Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 18:19:46 GMT by Scott Van Achte
I dont usually write about scams, but had a fun phone call this morning and thought I would just put out a warning for the 1 or 2 readers out there who may fall victum to such a scam. I got a phone call from an unknown-name, unknown number. Well, actually my wife answered the call, and when I overheard the conversation I quickly asked for the phone before she hung up - I knew immediately what the call was about and I wanted to have some fun.

Thursday, June 2, 2011, 18:34:46 GMT by Scott Van Achte
Well, its official. You can now add the Google Plus One button onto your website. Back in March after rolling out the Plus one into Google Search Results, it was much anticipated that the functionality to add the same button directly onto your site would be added - and now it has. Why should you pay any attention to this? If they have not already began, Google will be using this plus one data as a ranking signal in their algorythim.

The issue was reported briefly yesterday at the Google Analytics Blog , and Google is hard at work trying to resolve the issue. As of yesterday, for the majority of April, 0 visits are being reported when this is just not the case. If you check your Analytics data, don't panic! Google will )I assume( get this fixed soon. Facebook & Twitter Links May Help SEO
Tuesday, January 18, 2011, 17:37:07 GMT by Scott Van Achte
This news is a little dated now as Matt Cutts reported on it in mid-December, but I felt it was worth sharing for those who have not yet seen it. It seems that now, it is official that Google does use Twitter and Facebook links as a ranking signal for organic results. Google takes into consideration the reputation of the author on twitter and Facebook to help determine if the link posted is relevant and of value. If it is, it can contribute to your organic search rankings.

Saturday, December 11, 2010, 00:16:07 GMT by Scott Van Achte
For most sites, increasing your inbound link counts is important. But one aspect of link building that is often overlooked is not actually link building, it is making the most of the links you already have. Have you ever stepped back and taken a look at your links? Often times when we do site audits we find opportunities to significantly improve the value of links that are already in place. Improving the quality of your existing links usually takes some time,

Meta Keyword Tag is Dead for SEO
Thursday, November 25, 2010, 23:18:44 GMT by Scott Van Achte
Okay, this is very old news. The meta keyword tag has been dead in terms of SEO for some time. Some speculate that it was never alive in the first place, but regardless of if it was ever anything, these days it is definitely dead. Why am I writing about this ancient topic? Doesn't everyone know this tag is useless? Well, apparently not. I still get asked by clients, and even random people who as me what I do for a living, about the keyword meta tag.

Hotmail Fail with Google Sitelinks
Tuesday, August 24, 2010, 20:09:30 GMT by Scott Van Achte
I wish I had found this myself, but a friend of mine sent me an instant message today with a link to a "fail" over at FailBlog. I tried the Google search myself and sure enough the error is in fact real. I thought I would share it with all our readers who need a quick laugh. I only wish I had discovered this myself but I seldom have a reason to Google "hotmail" - it's up there with Googling Google. )and no, Googling Google does not present any fails - oh well.
