Linky Goodness, July 24
A Googly-Facebooky linky goodness todayyum! Gee, after a day of wide launch , only 33% of knols rank on the first page of Google . But they're not given extra weight. No. Why doesn't Google host long-form video? Because it didn't work out for Google Video , apparently. Oh, the irony. Google's own Blogspot.com is the No. 1 host for malware according to a study by Sophos. Unsurprisingly, Facebook is still growing faster than MySpace .

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's Google Gauntlet Missing One Key Element
As a follow-on to Microsoft's reorganization , BoomTown has published CEO Steve Ballmer's internal memo to employees. It does a pretty good job of rallying the troops, but I was most interested in Ballmer's comments about Google. I've added emphasis to the key words used: We continue to compete with Google on two frontsâ"in the enterprise, where we lead; and in search, where we trail. In search,

Wednesday comes this time each week. Today I wish it didn't. It's been a while, so it's probably time for this rumor to be resurrected: Google is rumored to be buying Digg for $200M . As always, we'll believe it when we see it. The Better Business Bureaus Rates Google As "Unsatisfactory." Ooh, I'm sure they're shaking in their boots. Google Knol Launches
You know how déjà vu is? I'm feeling that today, since it's been seven months since Google Knol was announced , and they're just now getting around to going live . And what we said at the first announcement still looks to be true: "Google Runs Out of Content to Monetize; Wants You to Build More." Despite obvious similarities, Google Knol will make no claims of aiming to kill Wikipedia . In case you've forgotten,

Google Maps Adds Walking Directions
Wow. I feel like Google really hears me. First, they make Gmail's contact system less invasive , and now they add walking directions to Google Maps ! I do a small dance of happiness! Now, I know there are those of you wondering why this even matters, what difference walking directions makes. Or, as one commenter put it : Walking directions? Whatever happened to just showing up, facing your body in the direction you wanted to go, and walking? Of course,

Oh my goodness, it's . . . you know. At OMMA Behavioral yesterday, Ignited's David Martin struck upon the perfect slogan for the behavioral advertising industry, and I quote: "It's Only Going To Get Creepier." Excellent. Government regulatory agencies, consumers and advertising clients alike flock to behavioral. Is it just me, or does the question " Are Google Maps good or evil? " seem kind of . . . stupid? There were maps before, people.

Another day, another dollar edition of Pilgrim's Picks. Could changes at The Patent and Trademark Office nullify Google's patents ? The New York Times have announced a content syndication deal with LinkedIn. Apparently Propeller , AOL's social news site, doesn't want to copy Digg's system anymore. Instead, they've announced a new algorithm that will calculate the most popular items. Wordpress comes to the iPhone ? w00t!

Baristas Unite! Social Networking At Street Level
Small businesses in the US are struggling right now. Any edge or any hope that can be found is a welcome change from the continued onslaught of economic news around rising prices and shrinking wallets. I found one such story this morning over my cup of coffee. Oh and it was kinda cool that it was about coffee. I need that kind of early morning validation that my coffee drinking is still "in vogue". Anyway, in the Wall Street Journal this morning )I know,

Photos of Partying Defendants Lead to Prison Time; Why Perception is Reputation
Most of the online reputation repair clients I work with are remorseful. At some point in their lives they've screwed up and now Google won't let them, or anyone else for that matter, forget the incident. Despite the isolated incident, and many subsequent years of good behavior, their past reputation slip has left a nasty scar on an otherwise clean history. Then, there are people like Joshua Lipton . Lipton was charged with drunken driving after crashing into,
