Favorite Twitter Conversation Ever - Search and The Princess Bride
Posted by jennita Every now and then great conversations happen via Twitter - by conversations I mean when multiple people Tweet and "@" each other regarding the same topic. During the day when so many people are online, there is a lot of "noise" which can make it pretty difficult to keep up. However, if you've ever had the joy of being a part of one of the #nightcrew search marketing Twitter conversations, then you know some of the gems I'm talking about.

Using the Adcenter Excel Plugin for Keyphrase Research
Posted by Tom_C While brainstorming potential blog post topics I decided that keyphrase research doesn't get enough love here and I merrily agreed to write a post on the topic. Little did I know that this would result in a morning of maths. Monday morning to be precise. Monday maths morning. I might make that a recurring theme. This post is going to be all about the adcenter Ad Intelligence plugin for Microsoft Excel . For those that don't know what it is,

Link Consolidation: The New PageRank Sculpting
Posted by randfish We've all been bored to tears )or driven to madness( by the PageRank Sculping debate that's arisen since Google's June announcement. But, behind the scenes, a lot of smart SEOs have been working on ways to provide the same benefits that were thought to be conferred by PR sculpting with nofollow through alternate methods. Out of the few that have emerged, the one I believe has the most promise and best opportunity is "Link Consolidation." Let's, briefly,

Whiteboard Friday - Crawling & Indexing
Posted by great scott! Crawling and Indexing. Without them you can't rank. If you can't rank, you can't get search traffic. If you can't get search traffic, your online marketing efforts are going to suffer; and in our industry that is a colossal FAIL. This seems like simple stuff we all take for granted,

A Dozen Don'ts for SEOs
Posted by randfish I'm not always a fan of Guy Kawasaki's work, but really enjoyed his post on the OPEN Forum - A Dozen Don'ts for Entrepreneurs . I thought I'd take a stab at replicating it with some of my biggest warnings for those in our field. For the list below, the word "clients" is interchangeable with "marketing manager" or "executive team" for in-house SEOs. Don't Create False Expectations Clients are just like everyone else - when you exceed their expectations,

Using small website to create a bigger impact
Posted by RobOusbey We all like links from big sites right? Whether it's in an editorial article, a guest post, etc, it's great for sending some strength and trust to your site. However, the drawback of links from big sites, is that you might find it's on a small page. The newly published page will take some time to get indexed, much of it's strength )certainly initially( is likely to come from internal links, and it's unlikely to have a great crawl rate.

A Checklist to Choose Which Internet Marketing Channel is Right for Your Business
Posted by randfish My good friend, Aaron Kahlow , posed an interesting question during the Online Marketing Summit yesterday afternoon in Portland, OR. Aaron asked: If a client came to you with $1 million to invest in a single Internet marketing channel, which one would you choose? Obviously, the question is a bit ridiculous )given that there's no additional detail provided(, but it's designed to elicit an "off-the-cuff" response to a challenging scenario. The answer,

Tips from a recovering journalist: How to write effective press releases that help SEO
Posted by MikeK@DanconiaMedia This post was originally in YOUmoz , and was promoted to the main blog because it provides great value and interest to our community. The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of SEOmoz, Inc. It's been said here before: Press releases are much less powerful than they used to be for SEO purposes. While churning out news releases and submitting them to free sites may not do much,

5 Ways to Improve your SEO Landing Pages
Posted by Sam Niccolls A lot a marketers focus optimization efforts at the bottom of their conversion funnels. One effective way to examine conversion rates at the bottom of the funnel is to create a custom segment that excludes visitors who bounce. As this segment gives you a view of your engagement data that only shows interested visitors, this is a great way to inform site changes. After all, these visitors are the ones who are most likely to convert into paying customers.
