How SEOmoz Gained 1000s of Visits from Google News )You Can Too(
Wednesday, May 25, 2011, 05:24:26 GMT by SEOmoz
Posted by Cyrus Shepard Consider this image below from the SEOmoz Google Analytics account. Behold a site rarely displayed in SEO blogs. Notice the similarities to a typical Kansas highway. Both are flat, contain no peaks or valleys, and are traffic free . Such was the sad state of SEOmozs referral traffic from Google News prior to April of this year. In truth, SEOmoz never pursued traffic from Google News for several reasons.

Everyone Should Hire 'Social Media Experts'
Tuesday, May 24, 2011, 08:12:09 GMT by SEOmoz
Posted by randfish I caught a post this week from Peter Shankman entitled " I Will Never Hire a Social Media Expert and Neither Should You ." It's not the first of its kind, nor was it the best argued, but it struck a nerve and has made a number of waves around the web. Needless to say, as someone who employs multiple team members with a great deal of social media expertise, I strongly disagree with the substance and sentiment of the piece.

Monday, May 23, 2011, 05:55:42 GMT by SEOmoz
Posted by Geoff Kenyon We all want to deliver actionable site audits, but doing the research can be a bit overwhelming if you dont have a process in place to systematically go through a site. I have created a site audit checklist that will walk you through how to do a site audit. This will work for most sites - in many cases you will need to customize the checklist a bit as some aspects won't be relevant or are unable to be changed.

Marketing Ethics: Persuasion vs. Manipulation
Thursday, May 19, 2011, 02:29:11 GMT by SEOmoz
Posted by Dr. Pete The debate over white hat vs. black hat tactics in SEO seems to resurface every few months, followed soon after by a debate over whether those labels or the debate itself are even worth having. I thought it would be useful to step back a bit and look at the broader issues of ethics in marketing. As marketers, our job is to persuade people, whether its to choose a certain product or buy it from a certain vendor. Its not always clear, though,

Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 05:29:15 GMT by SEOmoz
Posted by Lindsay The search engines are hungry for vertical search content. The representation of content types beyond the traditional webpage in the SERPs seems to grow on a daily basis. In many cases it is actually easier to rank for a vertical channel like video for a given keyphrase than it is to rank a traditional webpage for the same keyphrase. Are you still trying to compete in the SERPs with traditional webpages alone?

How many times do you read a great blog post with amazing infographics or just a post that was very well written and wondered how much traffic that site has received from it? At SEOmoz we strive to be transparent about everything we do, but even our traffic data is something that we don't often share. Today we're introducing Open Analytics ,

Monday, May 16, 2011, 03:42:04 GMT by SEOmoz
Posted by Justin Briggs Good link builders are a special breed of SEOs. There are a lot of solid SEOs in the industry, but effectively building links is much different from keyword research, copywriting, and technical analysis. Ive been thinking a lot recently about what makes an effective link builder. Whether youre an SEO looking to improve your own skillset or a manager looking to hire a new link builder, these are the characteristics of an effective link builder.

Beyond Blog Posts - A Guide to Innovative Content Types
Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 18:11:37 GMT by SEOmoz
