by Becky Uline This past month dealt out a handful of smackdown across the board. From weather, the market, and politics to the skies above our heads, there was nowhere to hide. Round one: Political squabbling A congress that can barely agree on anything has a hard time getting things done, as demonstrated again this month when it narrowly avoided another shutdown due to infighting over FEMA funding . No wonder its approval rating is at a painful 15%. Ouch!

Twins Who Are Different
Wednesday, September 28, 2011, 19:30:01 GMT by Yahoo! Buzz
by Claudine Zap The term "twins" usually brings to mind two nearly identical people. But that's not always the case. In rare instances, twins have been born with some unusual differences. Here's a look at some extraordinary pairs. First, take James and Daniel Kelly , recently profiled by the UK's Guardian . Born in 1993 to Alyson and Errol Kelly in southeast London, one of the boys is black and the other is white. James, who is black, looks like his dad,

The Exes Strike Back
Wednesday, September 28, 2011, 18:37:59 GMT by Yahoo! Buzz
by Mike Krumboltz Nothing lasts forever, especially love in Tinseltown. Stars are usually tactful when it comes to not bashing their exes in public, but every once in a while, somebody says something stupid and everyone goes bananas. The most recent case was, of course, Brad Pitt's ill-advised comments regarding his breakup with Jennifer Aniston. Pitt originally told Parade Magazine that he "wasn't living an interesting life" while he was married to Aniston. Not surprisingly,

'Millionaire Matchmaker' Under Fire
Monday, September 26, 2011, 19:18:51 GMT by Yahoo! Buzz
by Mike Krumboltz The host of Bravo's "Millionaire Matchmaker" is under fire. On Sunday night, Patti Stanger made an appearance on the call-in show "Watch What Happens Live." She made disparaging comments about Jewish and gay men. This was just the most recent example of Stanger making controversial statements. While speaking about open long-distance relationships, Stanger remarked, "In the gay world, it will always be open... There is no curbing the gay man." After that ,

Friday, September 23, 2011, 23:14:39 GMT by Yahoo! Buzz
by Mike Krumboltz Ready to feel as old as Yoda? Mark Hamill , the man behind Luke Skywalker, is turning 60 years old on Sunday. Hamill, who rose from little-known actor to icon with the 1977 release of " Star Wars, " was born on September 25, 1951. Though some like to joke that Hamill hasn't had much success in the years since 1983's "Return of the Jedi," nothing could be further from the truth.

by Mike Krumboltz Twenty years ago, NASA launched the UARS )Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite( from the Space Shuttle Discovery. The satellite finished its mission several years ago but remained floating in space. Not for long. After more than 7,000 days soaring above the Earth, UARS is coming home. Photographer Creates Landscapes Good Enough to Eat
Friday, September 23, 2011, 19:13:23 GMT by Yahoo! Buzz
by Claudine Zap For Carl Warner, it all started with a portabella mushroom. The London-based advertising photographer had gone to the produce market looking for objects to shoot in a still life. But the fungus caught his eye for another reason. "I thought it looked like a tree on an African savanna," he recalled recently, from his home in England. So the ad man took home the 'shroom and shot it the way he saw it. That first creation, "Mushroom Savanna," made 12 years ago,

Monday, September 19, 2011, 22:25:22 GMT by Yahoo! Buzz
by Mike Krumboltz Netflix is splitting itself in two. The streaming business will still be called Netflix. The DVD-by-mail business, which many feel is on the way out, will henceforth be known as " Qwikster ." The name may invoke images of off-brand convenience stores, but Netflix co-founder and big boss Reed Hastings is serious. The changes will go into effect within a couple of weeks . While on the surface this might not seem like a huge deal,
